WEBCAST: Meet Me in the Moment – Flavors From Sunrise to Sunset
Flavor expectations shift as the hands on the clock move through the day along with nutritional requirements, functional needs, and taste preferences. While “breakfast for dinner” is a welcome treat at times, broader trends connecting dayparts to flavors are evident across the food and beverage industry.
In the morning, people typically seek foods that provide energy and support their health. By afternoon, the desire to indulge rises, but energy remains essential to get through the remainder of the day. In the evening, cravings for indulgence peak, but so do interests in unwinding and relaxing.
Although few North American food and beverage launches identify consumption moments, daypart claims are gaining momentum with a 5-year compound annual growth rate of 19%. Social discussions about morning and afternoon taste preferences increased by about +5% in the last year, while conversations about evening food and drink jumped by +17%. Daypart taste preferences often reflect a complex intersection of flavor, intensity, texture, and ingredients.
